As the Commissioner for Communications Technology and Digital Economy, Niger State. One of my proudest initiatives has been onboarding 100 fellows into the UNDP Nigeria Jubilee Fellowship Programme (NJFP).
This milestone is more than a program; it is a bold step toward empowering tomorrow’s leaders and investing in Niger State’s future. For me, it is about providing young Nigerians with not just jobs, but pathways to leadership, innovation, and service.
Why This Programme Matters
The Nigeria Jubilee Fellowship Programme is a strategic response to youth unemployment and underemployment. Across the country, thousands of bright graduates are struggling to find their place in the workforce. By partnering with NJFP, Niger State is saying loudly and clearly: we believe in our youth, and we are willing to invest in their potential.
Human Capital Development
The fellows deployed across Niger State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are gaining hands-on learning, mentorship, and real exposure to governance and service delivery. This is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and practical skills.
Raising the Standard of Public Service
By integrating young, innovative minds into government institutions, we are refreshing the culture of governance. Their contributions bring new perspectives, energy, and digital-savvy solutions that align with my vision of a modern, tech-driven Niger State.
A Sustainable Model
One remarkable aspect of this partnership is that the financial responsibility is carried by NJFP, not the state government. This means Niger State gets the full benefit of talent integration without additional budgetary strain.
This is important because it reflects my philosophy of smart governance — leveraging partnerships, collaborations, and external resources to bring maximum benefit to our people while keeping state resources focused on infrastructure, innovation, and scaling impact.
The Vision Ahead
I believe these fellows represent a reservoir of energy, innovation, and commitment. As they integrate into our systems, they are not only developing themselves but also contributing to Niger State’s growth.
This programme is also a talent pipeline. In the coming years, I envision many of these fellows taking on leadership roles — in government, private sector, and civil society — carrying forward the skills, values, and experiences they have gained.
For Niger State, this is not just about 100 individuals; it is about creating a generation of changemakers who will define the future.
My Commitment
To every young professional onboarded, I say this: your journey is part of Niger State’s journey. Together, we are laying the foundation for a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.
This initiative is not just about today’s placements — it is about ensuring Niger State continues to produce leaders who will shape Nigeria’s digital and economic future.
I remain committed to supporting these fellows through mentorship, digital empowerment programs, and access to opportunities that extend beyond their fellowship year.
Linking NJFP to Niger State’s Digital Economy Goals
The Jubilee Fellowship aligns directly with Niger State’s Digital Economy Masterplan. Our vision includes:
- Digital Governance – Fellows will contribute to building smarter government systems.
- Skills Development – Their training aligns with our free digital skills and Microsoft certification programmes.
- Innovation Culture – Their energy supports a culture of innovation in public institutions.
- Inclusive Growth – Fellows come from diverse backgrounds, ensuring all parts of Niger State are represented in development.
By weaving NJFP into our broader agenda, we are ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.
Call to Action
If you are a Nigerlite, I encourage you to engage with initiatives like NJFP. Whether as a fellow, mentor, or supporter, your involvement is vital to building a New Niger powered by youth and innovation.
This is not just a programme — it is a movement. And movements are sustained when people take ownership, participate actively, and believe in the future we are creating.
